#14 - Got Chalk? Then You Can Make a Difference.

This is a fantastic random act of kindness that anyone can do! All it takes is some sidewalk chalk, which is super cheap and can be bought pretty much anywhere.

If you have a house with a sidewalk out front, you've got lots of space out there to write encouraging messages to anyone walking by. Why not change it out every week? I'll bet you people will make a point to come by on their walks just to read what you wrote.

Another great place are walking paths around parks, because they usually get a lot of foot traffic. It's a great spot to write something motivational for those out walking for exercise...something like, "progress, not perfection", or "you've got this, keep going".

Just keep in mind that simpler is usually better. One or two random messages can be more powerful than a long stream of phrases up and down the walkways. Even put them in less traveled footpaths where people will have to stumble upon them. The idea is that the message(s) you write will invariably be found by the ones who need to read it the most. I truly believe that, because I've seen it in action with the encouragement scrolls in my front yard.

You may think this simple act won't matter, but, friends, I promise you that it will make a big difference for some people, especially when they have the feeling (and they will) that the message was meant for them.

It can be powerful stuff.

Excited yet? Good! I'll get you started with a list of ideas of things to write. I've kept my phrases short, to keep you from getting writer's cramp, but write whatever is inspiring to you, and what you get a "nudge" to write. Spirit, God, the Universe, or whatever name you want to use, will work through you in mysterious ways to get messages out to people who need them. I've seen this work first hand, too. So here's my list:

  • Yes, you can!

  • If not now, when?

  • Live more, worry less

  • You do you

  • Love one another

  • Believe in yourself

  • You've got this

  • Progress, not perfection

  • Nothing changes if nothing changes

  • Be the light

  • You matter

  • It's never too late

  • You are amazing!

  • You are a beautiful human

  • You are enough

  • Be kind, always

  • Faith over fear

  • Love always wins

  • What we think, we become

  • Take a chance

  • Go for it

  • Love yourself

  • You are worthy

  • Every day is a fresh start

  • If it doesn't open it's not your door

  • Seek joy

  • Spread kindness

  • You can do it

  • Be vast and brilliant

  • The storm will pass

  • Look for the good

  • One day at the time

  • It's only temporary. All of it.

  • Find joy in the journey

  • Dwell in possibility

I'd love to see photos of you with your sidewalk sayings, so stick them in the comments below, or you can go over to the "Your Stories" page and post them there. I can't wait to see what my lovely readers do with this! ♥️
